The first time I saw Stacy Peralta skate was at the Winchester Hester contest in 1979. Afterward, I tried to emulate his unparalleled style, but I could only ever dream of skating that smooth. I didn’t meet Stacy until 1983 at the Del Mar contest when Steve Caballero introduced me. I admit I was a little star-struck. Over the years, we would run into each other at contests and industry gatherings. An amazing teller of tales, it was always a pleasure to have dinner with Stacy and listen as he shared stories about his skating and surfing adventures.
