Published in 1966 this is Newton-Keith's account of nine years she spent in Libya, with her husband who was working for the Food and Agriculture Organization, part of the United Nations. They arrive in Libya in 1955 and "had just come down from London, via Rome, still wearing our Harris tweeds." Turns out tweed is not great for hot climates and hot desert winds.
Newton-Keith was a well known writer back in the 1960s and it's not hard to see why. This is so readable, easy and warm and she's not afraid to poke a little fun at herself on occasion.
Hardback with dust jacket in very good condition. Some fraying around dustjacket.
