How to install Intel® Ethernet QSFP+ SR Optics

Preparing for installation

  • Power down and unplug equipment — Before handling any transceiver or fiber cabling, ensure servers, switches, and related devices are powered down in accordance with your facility’s procedures. This minimizes the risk of ESD and accidental electrical input during the installation.
  • Inspect components — Check the QSFP+ SR optic for any signs of damage or dust on the connector ferrule. If a dustcap is present, leave it in place until you are ready to connect fiber to prevent contamination.

Physical installation

  • Insert into the compatible slot — Align the QSFP+ SR optically and mechanically with the server’s NIC, switch, or module slot. Gently push until the module seats with a secure click. Do not force the module, as misalignment can damage both the transceiver and the host connector.
  • Attach fiber cabling — Use OM3 or OM4 MMF cables with MPO/MTP connectors. Ensure the fiber ends are clean and free of dust. Align the MPO/MTP connectors with the transceiver’s port and insert until the connectors fully seat. Keep the dust caps on unused ends and avoid bending fibers beyond recommended radii to maintain signal integrity.
  • Check link indicators — Power up the equipment and observe the link status indicators on both ends. A solid link light typically indicates a stable connection. If a link is not established, verify fiber polarity, connector cleanliness, and cabling path for damage or excessive bend radius.
  • Configure NIC and switch settings — Within the server OS and the connected switch, configure the 40GbE interface as required. Set MTU values, VLANs, flow-control, and any vendor-specific parameters to match your network policy and the fabric’s design.
  • Test and validate — Run basic connectivity tests and throughput measurements to confirm the link’s performance. Tools like iPerf or throughput tests can help verify the expected 40GbE bandwidth, latency characteristics, and QoS behavior within your environment.

Maintenance and best practices

  • Keep connectors clean — MMF fiber ends should be kept free of dust and debris. Use proper cleaning kits and avoid touching the connector ferrules with bare hands to prevent contamination that could degrade signal quality.
  • Plan for redundancy — In data-center fabrics, integrate redundant optics and alternate paths to maintain availability in the event of a link or transceiver failure.
  • Document configurations — Maintain up-to-date documentation of transceiver part numbers, fiber routing, and port mappings to simplify future upgrades and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor performance — Regularly monitor link utilization, error rates, and fiber integrity to detect degradations early and schedule timely maintenance.

Great toy for a smaller dog
Color: Checkers - Dinos Bruto (Purple), Size: Mini
This is a small, firm, sturdy toy designed for chewing. It isn't a soft toy and it does not have a squeaker. My dog is only 8 lbs, and this is a perfect size for her. I discovered these smaller toys through my groomer. Other manufacturers make this size, as well. The "hard chew" part indicates that this toy will not be chewed to death easily. The oldest one that we have is still in good condition. It's a baby duck (also available on Amazon) and it's over a year old. The dinosaur is colorful, easy to throw, and a really cute. Every night, my dog gives these small toys a bath, cleaning them up by licking each one before going to sleep. It's as if they are her babies. Since she never had a liter, my vet said that they are about the size that her babies would have been, so she may see them as her babies. She treats them well. Every now and then they go" swimming" in the washing machine and come out looking bright and new again.

Updated, still going !! didn't last two minutes.
Color: Checkers - Elephant (Gray), Size: Large, Color: Checkers - Elephant (Gray), Size: Large
I hated giving this a 1 star, because it was so cute when I unpacked it today. I just gave it to my dog and in less than two minutes he has a hole ripped in it.! he loves it so I don't wanna take it away from him, but I'm sure it's going to be gone in another few minutes. Why can't someone make a stuffed animal for a dog that lasts like they say so on their listing? I really should take it away from him and send it back, but I don't have the heart. I had to come back and give this a better review. it deserves at least four stars because even though he ripped holes in it, this one has lasted way longer than any other toy. He's actually still playing with it, and it still has some crinkle left to it so he didn't destroy the whole thing as quickly as he did other stuffed animals. I will certainly buy another one because at least it lasted a week so far!

Color: Checkers - Elephant (Gray), Size: Large, Color: Checkers - Elephant (Gray), Size: Large
A really cute little elephant. My lab loved it and carried it around for a week. Then the elephant began losing body parts. Both legs are gone now plus the big squeaker. Lab still likes the elephant and carries it around. Its loosing stuffing and the real question is what body part is next. Its nice but not tough.

Still in one piece and played with!
Color: Checkers - Dinos Bruto (Purple), Size: Mini
Very durable for my little King Charles Chewer. She's had it for a while now and all though the chewing phase has calmed down, she still can be somewhat rough with the toys. The little dino is standing firm. It was a battle she figured she couldn't win with Dino. Now he's a fetch/ tug o war toy that still gets a few nibbles.
