Telling the story of Kafka's final years as never before--the third volume in the acclaimed definitive biography
This volume of Reiner Stach's acclaimed and definitive biography of Franz Kafka tells the story of the final years of the writer's life, from 1916 to 1924--a period during which the world Kafka had known came to an end. Stach's riveting narrative, which reflects the latest findings about Kafka's life and works, draws readers in with nearly cinematic precision, zooming in for extreme close-ups of Kafka's personal life, then pulling back for panoramic shots of a wider world blighted by World War I, disease, and inflation. In these years, Kafka was spared military service at the front, yet his work as a civil servant brought him into chilling proximity with its grim realities. He was witness to unspeakable misery, lost the financial security he had been counting on to lead the life of a writer, and remained captive for years in his hometown of Prague. The outbreak of tuberculosis and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire constituted a double shock for Kafka, and made him agonizingly aware of his increasing rootlessness. He began to pose broader existential questions, and his writing grew terser and more reflective, from the parable-like Country Doctor stories and A Hunger Artist to The Castle. A door seemed to open in the form of a passionate relationship with the Czech journalist Milena Jesensk . But the romance was unfulfilled and Kafka, an incurably ill German Jew with a Czech passport, continued to suffer. However, his predicament only sharpened his perceptiveness, and the final period of his life became the years of insight.-- "Kirkus Reviews"Binding Type: Paperback

Sole separation
Size: 3 Big Kid, Color: Black/Orange, Size: 3 Big Kid, Color: Black/Orange
I really dont like to write reviews, let alone a negative one. Have had the shoe 1 month and the out sole on both shoes are peeling up. Normally we have had great success with saucony shoes for my boys. But this one we haven't had good luck. I have been super gluing the soles back down everything they peal up. Hopefully this is just a 1 off incident. Both side of one shoe and a large chunk of the heal on the other. You can see the glue marks and separation in pictures.

No tying necessary
Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia, Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia
I ordered a kids size 1 for my child, and so far, I’ve been really happy with these shoes.
Here’s what I like:
✅ Stylish design and comfortable fit. My daughter loves wearing these.
✅ They don’t show scuffs or scratches easily.
✅ The color is what I expected from the item pictures and it’s really cute.
✅ The Velcro straps make these easy to get off and put on.
✅ There’s a piece of Velcro on the tongue to help keep it in place. Really smart.
✅ The seams have not pulled apart and overall, these seem to be really well made.
They have offered good support for my child’s feet, and a shoe that my child can put on by themselves is a win for me!

Durable girls sneakers
Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia, Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia
These Saucony girls sneakers in fuchsia are great. The design and coloring are fun and vibrant and the cushioning on the insole is good with just enough bounce. The material and construction seem durable. The Velcro strap secures in two places so you get a snug fit without the shoe “tongue” moving around.
The sizing seems true to size. Overall these are a very solid, comfortable and functional pair of sneakers. $47, the current price, is about the price for similar products these days.
