This Damascus set gives you six purpose-built knives for complete daily prep. Blade sizes run from 7 inches on the paring knife to 9 inches on the bread knife. This is the only 6-piece Damascus kitchen knife set at JW Steel Crafts with red wood handles in a Bread, Chef, Santoku, Utility, Boning, and Paring configuration.

The History Behind This Blade

A six-knife set has long been the practical core of a working kitchen — enough blades to cover every common task without the bulk of a full professional rack. A bread knife sawed through crusted loaves, a chef knife and santoku led daily prep, a boning knife trimmed meat, and a utility and paring knife finished mid-size and detail work. Stabilized red wood became a favorite custom handle material for its deep reddish tone and tight grain that resists daily moisture. The contoured grip gave cooks a firm hold through long prep sessions. The JW Steel Crafts red wood Damascus set carries that practical kitchen tradition in every forged blade.

What Is Inside the Set

  • Bread Knife: Serrated edge for clean cuts through crusted loaves, largest at 9 inches

  • Chef Knife: Primary slicing, chopping, and daily prep

  • Santoku: Flat edge for controlled slicing, dicing, and board work

  • Utility Knife: Mid-size trimming and portioning

  • Boning Knife; Trimming fat, deboning poultry, and detail work

  • Paring Knife: Peeling, trimming, and fine precision work, smallest at 7 inches

Blade Performance

Every blade is forged from layered Damascus steel in a flowing wave pattern. The layered structure builds consistent edge retention and cutting strength through daily use. Damascus holds a working edge longer than standard stainless steel under the same load. The pattern varies naturally across every blade — no two are identical. Full tang construction runs through every handle and spreads weight evenly from tip to base for stable cutting.

Handle Construction

Every handle is shaped from red wood with a contoured grip. The deep reddish tone and tight grain resist moisture and hold their finish through daily kitchen use, and natural variation means no two handles look alike. The ridged contour fits the hand and keeps your grip firm through long prep sessions. Brass pins lock every handle to the full tang for long-term reliability. No bolster sits between blade and handle, giving each knife a clean, lightweight profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this set different from the other 6-piece sets at JW Steel Crafts?

This is the only 6-piece set with Damascus blades and red wood handles. The other 6-piece sets use high-carbon steel with stag antler, or J2 steel with black resin and a carving fork.

Why does this set include a bread knife?

The bread knife saws through hard crust without crushing the crumb a task no chef, santoku, or paring blade can cover.

What is the contoured grip on each handle?

The red wood is shaped with ridges that fit the hand and keep your hold firm through long prep sessions.

Is redwood durable for kitchen use?

Yes. Its tight grain resists moisture and holds its reddish finish through daily use.

Are all six knives full tang?

Yes. The tang runs the full length of every handle for strength and durability.

Does this set include storage?

No. Use a magnetic strip, block, or roll — never store loose in a drawer.

How do I care for Damascus blades?

Hand wash and dry after use, oil occasionally, and never use a dishwasher.

Is this set suitable as a gift?

Yes. The matched blades, red wood handles, and brass pins make it a strong gift for cooks and collectors.

Knowledgeable History; Uncharitable Theological Commentary
Format: Kindle
The author seems incredibly knowledgeable about the topic. I am learning a tremendous amount about the period bridging the Old and New Testament periods by reading this book. However, it is incredibly frustrating to me that the author compares modern day fellow-Christian cessationists with the unbelieving Sanhedrin whom Stephen excoriated in Acts chapter 7. "The insinuation is that the Holy Spirit, which had inspired the Torah, was the very same spirit who had been prophetically active down to the time of Jesus but whom the Jewish leaders were now railing against. One wonders what words Stephen would have for modern readers who perpetuate the notion of prophetic silence." At first this passage irritated me as an unnecessary and uncharitable jab. But I decided to write a review to let readers know to be prepared: if you do not have a Grudem-style view of ongoing prophecy, you should expect the author of this book to take cheap and uncharitable jabs, and to compare you to unbelieving Jews who rejected God's word. It actually colors my ability to take the author seriously, though I paid far too much for this book not to persevere through it. The author could have chosen to take an objective and charitable stance and simply report the facts. I'm surprised an editor didn't encourage the author to restrain his criticisms.
