About the work
This beautiful monochromatic print has been created to accompany Armando Andrade Tudela’s work included in Adventures of the Black Square:Abstract Art and Society 1915 – 2015, an exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery, 14th January – April 2015) which presents a survey of the history of the black square in modern and contemporary art. About the artist
Armando Andrade Tudela was born in Peru in1975 and since 2000 has lived and worked in European cities including London, Maastricht, St Etienne and Berlin. Through his extensive travels and interest in cultural absorption, his work often explores the theme of displacement.
Tudela is also well known for his Camion series of 2003, which comprises sixty 35mm slides each documenting a truck seen by the artist on his numerous road trips on Peruvian highways. These records of the phenomenon of abstract murals painted on truck s, echo design aspects from different European artists which Tudela highlights in order to explore the overlapping histories through which images are generated, translated and interpreted.
Armando Andrade Tudela is based in France and Germany and is represented by the Carl Freedman Gallery, London.
