A dramatic multi-strand black bead necklace with an extraordinary floral cluster, made in the tradition of the Stanley Hagler NYC workshop. This piece carries the Stanley Hagler N.Y.C. mark used by Mark Mercy, who was Hagler’s former lead designer. After Hagler’s passing in 1996, Mercy continued producing jewellery under this mark, as well as M&M Designs Fla., during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Mercy’s solo work is known for its larger scale, bold sculptural forms and intricate beadwork. All characteristics seen in this wonderfully theatrical design. The lavish central flower, layered with jet-black beads, tiny silvery seed beads and rhinestone accents, is unmistakably in the Hagler/Mercy style: opulent, textural and beautifully handcrafted.
A striking collector’s piece with all the drama associated with the later Hagler workshop.
